Profile

Brame Architects traces its origin to 1911 in Gainesville, Florida.   With the exception of time out for two world wars, the office has been in continuous operation for over 99 years.   William W. “Billy” Brame AIA is the owner of this firm located at 606 N.E. First Street in historic downtown Gainesville. The practice traditionally covers the North Central portion of Florida, with occasional projects in other parts of the state or even beyond.   In its long history this firm has played a key role in many of the facilities in the Gainesville area.

Diversity is a key word in the type of projects that our company has undertaken.   These include specialty projects such as the St. Augustine Air Traffic Control Tower and the Stephen C. O'Connell Center at the University of Florida.   Medical facilities we have designed over the years include Alachua General Hospital, Lake Shore Hospital in Lake City and a wide range of clinics and doctors’ offices.

Financial institutions, general office facilities, institutional buildings and military projects have accounted for a significant portion of our work over the years.   Local projects have included the Gainesville Regional Utilities administration building, the Chamber of Commerce, the First Union Bank, Bank of America on N.W. 13th Street, and AvMed Corporate Headquarters.

Our work on religious facilities has ranged from complete new complexes to additions and renovations at existing facilities.   This work has been done at over 40 churches.

Work on historical buildings has always been an especially enjoyable aspect of our practice.   In the 1930's our team remodeled an existing downtown building to create a home for Cox Furniture.   In the early 1990 ’s, another remodeling, renovation, and addition at that building was undertaken to create The Opera House, breathing fresh life into that facility.

Our firm has also designed a significant number of educational facilities over the years.   These include elementary schools that reflect the various educational trends over the years.

This firm's work includes design of most of the high schools and elementary schools in Gainesville, and work at many of the middle schools.

We have designed several major facilities at both the community college and university level.   We are quite proud of our contributions to the University of Florida campus, which includes the construction of the J. Wayne Reitz Union Building and numerous renovations, all in keeping with the historical flavor of the original buildings.

Our residential facilities have included the full range of both the private and public sector -- from an occasional single family home to large-scale public housing projects.   This has included over a thousand private apartment/ condominium units in a variety of price ranges, from basic low-cost housing, to top-of-the-line luxury units.   The firm has designed over 1,400 residential units in approximately 18 HUD projects throughout the state.   These projects have included single- family residences, garden- and walkup-type apartments, elevator-type apartment buildings and adult congregate living facilities used as group homes.   Gainesville area projects include The Village retirement community, Hobbits Glen, Boardwalk, Oakbrook and Oakbrook Walk.

We are ready to put our experience to work for your project.
